Musical Ambition

Many, many years ago I thought I would like to learn to play the piano and I bought a Miracle keyboard which was compatible with Windows 95 operating system (yes, it was that long ago). I was making good progress until I upgraded my computer to Windows XP, which, alas, turned out to be incompatible with my keyboard.

So ended my ambition to play the piano. I later bought a Yamaha keyboard with its own teaching system which, bereft as I was of my old Miracle system, I did not have the heart to pick up.

Recently on the Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk fm I heard someone encouraging listeners to be always learning something new, or words to that effect. My failed attempt to learn the piano came to mind. I thought, at my age it’s a bit late to start learning to play the piano now. Then I thought, hang on; why not just learn to play, not the piano, but just a song!

So this week I got the keyboard down and started to learn The Rose (You know “Some say love etc.)
My new ambition is to be able to play the song from memory without looking at the keys.
